In a freak mishap, a sixty-year- old man died on the spot after an electricity pole fell on him near his house in Trimulgherry area here today.
The deceased was identified as B Laxman Rao, who had retired from a bank on September 30.
"The pole was bent since yesterday. It fell on Rao when he was returning home after giving his two-wheeler for servicing," police sub-inspector B Srinu Naik said.
"He died instantaneously due to heavy bleeding from injuries to the head, and not due to electric shock," the officer said, adding that Rao's brother lodged a complaint against the state power department accusing it of negligence in not replacing the pole.
A case under section 304-A of IPC (causing death by negligence) has been registered against the power department, Naik said, adding that police will identify the power officials who were responsible for repairing or replacing the pole.
