A 32-year-old man, who suffered permanent mental disability and lost his memory after being hit by an autorickshaw, has been awarded a compensation of over Rs 27 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.
MACT Presiding Officer Nikhil Chopra directed IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Company Ltd, insurer of the auto rickshaw which caused the accident, to pay Rs 27,33,176 to south Delhi resident Muslim Ansari, who suffered 60 per cent mental disability after being hit by the vehicle in 2011.
The tribunal, while awarding the compensation, relied on testimony of Ansari's sister as he had lost his memory and could not recall the accident details.
The tribunal also relied on the FIR against the driver and the victim's medical report while awarding the compensation.
According to the petition, Ansari was standing at a road in Badarpur here when a rashly and negligently driven auto rickshaw hit him.
Due to the impact, Ansari fell down and sustained grave injuries, after which he was taken to a hospital, it said.
