Rakesh Reddy, a private employee, had left his house at 6 AM yesterday informing his parents that he has to attend a meeting, they said.
"At 8 AM, Rakesh's parents received a threat message to their cell phone by SMS from the victim's phone stating that they were planning to abduct their daughter for the past one month and had now got their son kidnapped," Jawaharnagar Police Station Inspector P Venkatagiri told PTI.
At 2 PM, the parents received another message from Rakesh's phone with Rs 8 lakh ransom demand to free him, the Inspector said.
After reaching the spot, police found that Rakesh's mouth was gagged and his throat slit.
A case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered and further probe is on to locate the absconding accused, police said.
