"The court has convicted Rajesh Kumar Singh and sentenced him to imprisonment for ten years", said public prosecutor Vijay Malvankar.
The court of Judge D G Murumkar also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on Singh and directed that the amount be given to the victim's son.
According to the prosecution, the incident had occurred on January 23, 2011 when the victim, Daksha Gugal and her eleven-year-old son were travelling in a local train on the Central Line.
Gugal succumbed to her injuries 10 days later.

Kurla Railway Police registered a case against an unnamed person after Gugal's co-passengers alerted them and later arrested Singh on the basis of IMEI number of the mobile phone.
The prosecution examined 11 witnesses to prove its case while Singh was provided a lawyer by the court from Legal Aid.
Singh's lawyer V B More said that the court convicted him under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 397 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) under the IPC and section 153 (endangering safety of persons travelling by railway by wilful act or omission) of the Railway Act.
