A man who had written a letter to Prime Minister's Office during Manmohan Singh tenure seeking financial help for the marriage of his two sisters, today claimed to have received a cheque of Rs 50,000 from the PMO.
25-year-old Manjit, a teacher in private college, said that the cheque is attached with a cover letter addressed to him and signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wishing bright future for his sisters.
Manjit, the resident of Jatpura village under Ahar Police Station here, had sent the letter last year stating he earns Rs 2,200 per month teaching in a private college in a nearby village of Khadana.
In the latter he had said his two sisters are in marriageable age but he has no means to get them married.
He had urged the PM either to get him a suitable job, or remit funds enough to marry both his younger sisters, or arrange dowry items needed for the marriage.
Manjit said though he appreciates the PM's gesture but the amount is not sufficient.
He claimed that he had demanded Rs 3,64,000 to meet the marriage expenses.
