The court awarded the jail term to 27-year-old Chunbuda, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, saying prosecution has established a strong motive against him for killing his elder brother Devi Dayal.
The court did not award the extreme punishment to Chunbuda saying, "There is no allegation against the convict that he acted with cruelty. Minimum punishment provided for murder is life imprisonment.
"Taking into account all these facts and circumstances, the convict is sentenced to undergo life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 is imposed for the offence punishable under section 302 (murder) of the IPC," Additional Sessions Judge Umed Singh Grewal said.
While 8-10 labourers were sleeping on the first floor, Dayal was sleeping on the second floor and in the night everyone except the victim came downstairs when it started raining.
In the morning, when the complainant and victim's uncle sent someone to the roof to wake up Dayal, they came to know that he had been murdered.
Victim's uncle suspected Chunbuda was behind the murder as he was having an illicit affair with the victim's wife due to which there used to be frequent quarrels between both the brothers.
