Kiran Rajaram Pote, a resident of Kopri in Thane east was awarded the sentence by Thane Additional Sessions Judge S J Kale.
He was also fined with a sum of Rs 5,000 and an additional imprisonment of three months.
Additional Public Prosecutor Sanjay Londe appearing for the prosecution told the court that it was on April 14, 2010 that victim Abhinav Vishwanath Thorat (18) was sitting outside his house in Parsi Wadi, speaking to friends when Pote arrived on the scene and picked up a quarrel with him and others in the night.
Thorat was rushed to the Thane civil hospital and from there to the Sion hospital and treated there, the prosecution told the court.

The prosecution pointed out that the crime was a heinous one in which the victim could have lost his life.
The accused wanted to prove to others in the locality that he was a dreaded goon, the prosecution stated.
After hearing the prosecution and defence, the judge ruled that the crime fell under the category 307 of the IPC and the accused be given seven years RI.
