A 30-year-old man has been sent to seven years in jail by a Delhi court for robbing a woman and her son of a mobile phone and over Rs 500 at knife point.
Additional Sessions Judge Atul Kumar Garg held Karol Bagh resident Parveen guilty of robbing the victims with an attempt to cause their death or grievous hurt with the use of a deadly weapon.
"In view of the discussions, I am of the considered opinion that the prosecution has proved its case against the accused both under Sections 392 (robbery) as well as 397 (robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the IPC. He is convicted accordingly," the judge said and awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment to Praveen.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 8,000 on him.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on April 9, 2012 when the woman and her son were returning to their home in Karol Bagh at 11.30 PM. Praveen stopped them and robbed them at knife point, it said.
Praveen threatened to kill them and snatched the woman's mobile phone and her purse containing Rs 520. When he tried to run away, the woman's son raised an alarm and Praveen was caught and beaten by the passersby who had gathered there.

Police was informed and Praveen was arrested.
During the trial, Praveen claimed that he was innocent and was falsely implicated in the case.
The court, however, rejected his submission, saying there was no reason for the woman to falsely implicated him in the case and there was no enmity of any kind between them.
