Additional Sessions Judge Virender Kumar Goyal awarded the jail term to 30-year-old Rizwan Khan, a resident of Bhalswa Dairy here, and also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on him.
"From the depositions of the witnesses, it is proved that while committing robbery, accused Khan used deadly weapon and further caused injuries to complainant Purshottam, whose medical report has also been proved by the doctor. The robbed articles were also recovered from his possession," the court said while convicting Khan.
Apart from Khan, co-accused Tej Singh was acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence against him and Sunil could not be arrested and was declared proclaimed offender.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on the morning of November 13, 2012, when victim Purshottam was going for his work in Wazirpur village on his cycle and when he reached Prebari Pul in Keshav Puram, three men came to him and stopped his cycle.

Out of the three accused, one took out Purshottam's mobile phone from his pocket while the other snatched his wallet containing Rs 7,780 and some documents.
Police said when the men tried to flee, Khan was caught by the passersby while the other two managed to escape. Singh was caught later on.
Khan sought leniency on the grounds that he has to take care of his mother and four siblings and was the only bread earner of the family. He also said that he has been in custody since November 13, 2012.
