A man has been sent to seven years in jail by a Delhi court for robbing a person of his mobile phone and over Rs 7,000 cash at knife point and injuring him.
Additional Sessions Judge Virender Kumar Goyal awarded the jail term to 30-year-old Rizwan Khan, a resident of Bhalswa Dairy here, and also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on him.
"From the depositions of the witnesses, it is proved that while committing robbery, accused Khan used deadly weapon and further caused injuries to complainant Purshottam, whose medical report has also been proved by the doctor. The robbed articles were also recovered from his possession," the court said while convicting Khan.
"On account of physical or mental harm, including pain, suffering and emotional distress, a compensation of Rs 5,000 is imposed upon convict Rizwan Khan in favour of complainant Purshottam," the court said.
Apart from Khan, co-accused Tej Singh was acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence against him and Sunil could not be arrested and was declared proclaimed offender.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on the morning of November 13, 2012, when victim Purshottam was going for his work in Wazirpur village on his cycle and when he reached Prebari Pul in Keshav Puram, three men came to him and stopped his cycle.
One of them took out a knife and while pointing it out on him, the man asked the victim to hand over his articles.
