According to the police, Yogesh Prabhu, the accused, first befriended the woman through the social networking site Orkut in 2009. However, because of his behaviour, she stopped meeting him and deleted him from her friends' list.
Subsequently, she started getting obscene e-mails and photos. Initially, she ignored it but later approached the police.
The cyber cell of the Mumbai police traced the IP address of sender and found that e-mails had been sent from Prabhu's office.
The investigation also showed that Prabhu himself had sent the e-mails and copies of the e-mails received by the complainant were found in 'sent' folder of his e-mail account.
Esplanade Metropolitan Magistrate's court today convicted Prabhu and sentenced him to 3 month's simple jail term under IT Act and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for molestation.
The police claimed said that this was the first conviction in the state for sending obscene e-mails.
