Man held after friends open fire when stopped from molesting

A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attempt to murder case in west Delhi's Janakpuri area where his associate had allegedly opened fire on a man who had stopped them from "molesting" a girl, police said today.
Acting on a tip-off, Ravinder alias Ravi was arrested by Delhi Police's Crime Branch on January 13 from near Dwarka sector 10 metro station, said Ravindra Yadav, joint commissioner of police (Crime).
The accused is an active member of 'Saddam Gauri' gang, which is active in west and southwest districts of Delhi and is previously involved in several criminal cases.
"Ravinder has studied up to MBA level. His father is an employee in CPWD. In 2010, he came in contact with local criminals and joined Saddam Gauri gang, that has been running Satta Mafia and extorting money from other satta operators," he said.
"The accused has been involved in several criminal cases and has been arrested 4-5 times," said the officer.
During interrogation, Ravi told police that on December 19, 2016, at about 10.30 PM, he along with his associates Anshu Gupta, Ramesh and Pradeep were trying to molest a girl near Tilak Pul area, said Yadav.

A cab driver, Sanjay (27), who was coming from Rohini and was passing through that area, interfered and asked them not to do so and as a result, they got enraged.
"Anshu Gupta threatened him on gunpoint and fired at him. Later, Anshu and Ramesh were arrested but Ravi along with Pradeep was evading arrest," he said.
Sanjay was shot in the abdomen but has recovered.
The weapon of offence - 7.65 bore pistol was given by the accused Ravinder to his friend.
