A man was arrested here on Friday for allegedly trying to extort money from a woman by threatening to circulate her objectionable pictures on social media platforms, police said.
The accused, identified as Sufiyan Abdul Hakim Khan (21), a resident of Kurla, was arrested by the crime branch, an official said.
During the interrogation, he told the police that the main accused in the case lives in the UAE, he added.
"The woman, a resident of Antop Hill area, had befriended a man through internet calling facility. Through their conversations, the man obtained all the information related to her and her objectionable photographs. Following this, he started demanding money from her," he said.
He threatened the woman that if she failed to pay, he would circulate her objectionable photographs on social media, the official said.
The victim then lodged a complaint with the crime branch, following which an offence was registered against the accused, the official said.

"The police then chalked out a plan to trap the accused. Accordingly, when the woman got a call, she asked the caller to come to the Kurla railway station to collect money. As soon as Khan reached the designated spot, police apprehended him," he said.
"During his interrogation, he told the police that the main accused, who is in the UAE, had asked him to collect money from the victim," he said.
