The accused identified as Ahmed Adam Khan, a butcher by profession, made several calls to the builder since last month. He claimed to be the aide of gangster Chhota Shakeel and demanded extortion of Rs five crore from the builder, they added.
"The accused used to call the builder by using Voice over Internet Protocol, which makes it difficult for the investigators for tracing the location and the number of the caller," said DCP (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni.
Following a complaint by the builder, the Anti-Extortion Cell of the police nabbed him.
Investigations are underway by the local police and sleuths of Anti-Extortion Cell, they said, adding a search is launched to nab another accused, who has helped Khan in procuring information about the builder.
