A man was arrested for allegedly killing his uncle over the property issue in Sonipat district of Haryana, police said Saturday.

Sanjay, 40, a resident of Sonipat, was arrested on Friday from Garhi Brahman village, they said.

According to Gaurav Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North), "Police found a body of a man in the Munak canal, Haiderpur Water Treatment Plant, Rohini, on Monday".

An electric cable was found wrapped around his neck and the post-mortem of the body was conducted at Baba Sahib Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini, he said.

During investigation, the deceased was identified as Sunder, a resident of Sonipat, the DCP said.

The investigations lead to the involvement of Sunder's nephew, Sanjay, for his murder, Sharma said.

During interrogation, Sanjay disclosed that he ran a shop and Sunder used to harass his customers as he was alcoholic, the DCP said, adding he was "disturbed" due to the uncle's quarrelsome behaviour.

It was also found that Sunder was living separately from his wife and three children for the last fifteen years and he had sold his ancestral property, the DCP said.

He had purchased some property in Sonipat in the name of Sanjay, Sharma said.

However, Sanjay had apprehensions that his uncle might take the property back so he decided to kill him, said the DCP.

He took Sunder in his car on the pretext seeing some relative in Rohtak. But he strangulated him with an electric cable and threw the body into the Munak canal, Sharma said.

The remaining part of the electric cable, a knife and a car were seized from Sanjay's possession, police said.
