A man wanted for the death of a Delhi police constable and carrying a reward of Rs 10,000 on his head has been arrested, police said today.
22-year-old Asfaq, alias Assa, was apprehended by a team of Crime Branch from Lado Sarai T-point yesterday after it received a tip off about his movements, police said.
"Asfaq (22) is an active member of Mewati gang involved in thefts of cattle as well as other crimes in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). On the intervening night of May 17 and 18, the gang was returning with stolen cattle in a Tata 407 when they were chased by a police team.
"In the process of escaping, Asfaq, along with his associates, crushed the intercepting police motorcycle under their Tata 407, resulting in the death of constable Naresh and injuring constable Shankar of Bharat Nagar police station," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav.
Asfaq is a close relative of co-accused Shakir - kingpin of the gang who was arrested earlier - and is involved in criminal activities for the last about 5-6 years, police claimed.
