The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police have arrested a man for allegedly fleecing gullible people by usurping their properties using forged documents after first extending loans to them at exorbitant rates of interest.
One Harjinder Pal Singh of Karol Bagh was arrested yesterday upon a complaint registered by a businessman who alleged that the accused had cheated him after giving him a loan, police said.
"Narinder Kumar, the businessman, stated in his complaint that he took an amount of Rs 70 lakh in loan from Singh," said DCP (EOW), Mangesh Kashyap.
But even after paying back an amount to the tune of Rs 1.51 crore to the accused, he was asked by him to give Rs 2.20 crore more, which he refused, Kumar says in his complaint.
The accused later forged Kumar's signature and took over his land plots, the complaint states. Officials alleged that Singh has duped several others using the same modus operandi.
