Thane police said Friday that they have arrested a 31-year-old man who is accused of cheating several car owners in the district.
Soshekar Thangil alia Appu, the accused, promised car owners Rs 17,000 per month for renting out their cars to him for his travel business, and sold off the vehicles keeping them in the dark.
He was arrested last week, said senior inspector Kishore Khairnar of Kasarwadavali police Station.
Police found that Thangil had allegedly cheated several car owners in Mumbra, Mira Road, Nayanagar and other parts of Thane district.
Thangil would allegedly sold off the cars he had rented to customers in Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, and then abscond.
At least five cars were seized from Gudivada of Andhra Pradesh during the probe. Police hope to recover many more cars, inspector Khairnar said.
