Man held for 'robbing' banks

Haryana police today claimed to have nabbed a member of a gang which was allegedly involved in major bank robberies in different districts.
The gang had looted more than Rs two crore from different banks, police said.
A spokesman of the police department said that during a night domination campaign carried out by district police Rohtak yesterday, information was received about some persons roaming near the branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce at Kisangarh village.
Acting on the tip off, a police team reached the spot and arrested one accused identified as Sunil, resident of Chathra village in Sonipat.
The other accused escaped under the cover of thick fog.
During interrogation, Sunil said that he along with his associates, Monu, resident of Ismaila, Rohtak, Sanjeet, resident of Mahabir Enclave, Dwarka, Delhi and Krishan, resident of Brahi village, Rohtak, allegedly used to rob banks, and they had attempted to rob a bank in Brahmanwas village last week.

They were allegedly also involved in bank robberies in Sonipat and Rewari, and had looted Rs 1.22 crore from a bank in Saiydpur village in Sonipat. They had also allegedly looted Rs 81 lakh from a bank in Rewari, police said.
Police have also recovered one walkie-talkie set from Sunil's possession, besides recovering a car bearing registration number, a drill machine, hammer, and other weapons used by the accused, from the spot.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC in Meham police station.
Investigation is underway and a manhunt is being carried out to find the other accused and recover the looted money, police said.
