Man held for stealing mobiles by posing as doctor

Amandeep Singh, who posed as a doctor, and Jitender, who received the stolen property from him, were arrested recently, police said today. 21 mobile phones were recovered from Singh's possession.

Singh's arrest came on a complaint filed by Dr Vijay Mishra of Safdarjung Hospital that his mobile phone had been stolen and that he suspected one Aman.

"The complainant reported that on verification, it was revealed that Aman was not appointed by the hospital and his name was nowhere mentioned in the records of hospital," a senior police official said.

After investigations, Aman was arrested and he revealed that he studied upto 12th standard and dreamt of becoming a doctor but could not do so due to family problems.

"He wanted to live a lavish lifestyle but due to his low salary, he was not satisfied and was unable to meet his expenses. Hence, he started committing thefts," the official said, adding that he was in jail for some months in a theft case and was released in December, 2011.

He started looking for a job but did not succeed. He went to Safdarjung Hospital and decided to steal mobile phones and other valuables of doctors by posing as a doctor.

"Accordingly, he managed to steal a coat and stethoscope of a doctor from the duty room and started roaming in the hospital complex. He started committing theft of valuables and mobile phones from the duty rooms of the doctors at Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS," the official said.
