Man held for trying to smuggle in gold, other valuables

An Indian passenger from Dubai has been arrested from Mumbai international airport for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold bars, jewellery and durable goods worth Rs 14.48 lakh, a senior customs official said today.
According to police, Dasanadi Mohammed Rizwan, holding Indian passport, landed at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus airport on a Jet Airways flight from Dubai yesterday.
Rizwan was intercepted while passing through the green channel, the official said adding "he was found to be carrying gold bars, jewellery and durable goods worth Rs 14.48 lakh. He did not declare the goods, following which he was arrested for alleged violation of the Customs Act."
Only those passengers, who have no goods to declare, are allowed to pass through the green channel.
