A 25-year-old man, who was involved in robbing a cab driver of his car, was arrested after an encounter with the police on Thursday, officials said.
The accused was in the car when police intercepted them around 8.30 pm near Sigma roundabout under Beta-II police station limits, they said.
Sachin and his partner had on Wednesday hired the Ola cab near the NRI City cut, where the driver was waiting for his next duty. The cab driver had agreed to drop the duo in return for cash and booking was not made online through the App, the police said.
After a few minutes into the journey, the cab was flagged down by four men, while the two passengers inside the car took out a pistol and held the driver hostage, they said.
The six accused then roamed around in the car for more than two hours before assaulting and abandoning the driver at an isolated spot near Gautam Buddh Univeristy, the police added.
Six men had last night fled with an Ola cab. Today an input was received by us that the same Swift DZire has been seen in the area, the suspects were intercepted and they opened fire on the police team, prompting retaliatory firing, said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida 3, Rajesh Kumar Singh.
