A man allegedly attempted suicide by jumping into Nethravati river in full public view on Wednesday and was saved by local fishermen, police said.
The middle-aged man had leapt off a bridge into the river even as shocked locals watched him taking the plunge.
Local fishermen quickly rushed to the spot in their boat and rescued the man who had been and admitted to a private hospital, police said.
His identity and the reason for his extreme step were under investigation, they said.
In a suspected suicide, the body of a young, unmarried woman was found in Nethravati river near Barimaru village, police said.
The woman was reported missing from her house since early hours of Tuesday.
