The accused, Santosh Sen (35), attacked his mother - Girjabai Sen - with an axe around 6 am at their home in Sirsod village after she refused to give him the money, Amola police station's in-charge Parmanand Sharma said.
Later, the accused kept the body inside a room in the house and locked it, he said.
"After killing his mother, the accused went out of the house and told the villagers that something (bad) was going to happen as crows were hovering around and cawing (considered a bad omen among locals)," Sharma said.
Later, when the villagers went to the man's home to take his mother's welfare, they found the locked room which they broke open and found the woman lying inside a pool of blood, the police official said.

The villagers then caught hold of Santosh Sen and informed the police who reached the spot and arrested him, he said.
Sharma said the accused admitted that he killed his mother using an axe after the dispute as she refused to give him Rs 100 to buy liquor.
