The accused, Mukesh Antil, allegedly strangulated his two sons, Ayush (15) and Lucky (8) with a rope between 5-6 AM at their four-storeyed house in Sanjay Nagar colony and later called police informing them about his crime, said a senior police officer.
Police said that the accused was depressed over a host of issues.
"His wife, Jyoti, had died last year due to Hepatitis A and he was quite depressed over losing her. He was also frustrated with his children whom he thought were irresponsible and not interested in studies. He was involved in a dispute case over his house in the MCD and that was upsetting him. He was also unemployed after he had quit his job owing to his wife's illness," said a senior police officer.
Neighbours said that the municipal corporation officials were scheduled to demolish the top floor of Mukesh's house on November 17.
Chaudhary, in his complaint to municipal corporation, had alleged that there was a water seepage problem arising in his house after Mukesh had constructed the new floors, said one of the neighbours.
