A 26-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband in Geeta Colony area of East Delhi following her refusal to hand him over the gifts she had received from her brother on Raksha Bandhan.
The incident occurred yesterday when the woman, identified as Navneet Kaur, returned to her husband's place from her parents' home in Rajouri Garden after celebrating Raksha Bandhan.
She lived with her husband, Paramjeet Sindhuria (29), at Rani Garden area of Geeta Colony. The couple even have a two-month-old daughter named Barakat.
"When Kaur returned home last evening, Sidhuria asked her to give Rs 1,500 which she had got from her brother on Raksha Bandhan as gift. The woman refused to do so which led to a heated argument between the couple and in a fit of rage, the husband strangled his wife to death," said a police officer.
One of the neighbours made a PCR call on hearing loud arguments between the couple. When a police team reached the spot, Kaur's body was found on the floor. There were strangulation marks on her neck.
"Sidhuria had fled from the spot. He was later arrested from Rani Garden area. He earlier used to run a travel agency but was currently jobless. During interrogation, he confessed to have strangled his wife," the officer said.
The victim's family has further alleged that their daughter was continuously harassed by her husband for dowry and this has been the reason why he has been killed.
"A case of murder has been registered in this regard and further investigation is on," the officer added.
