In a fit of rage after a quarrel with his wife, a man allegedly abandoned his daughters aged 18 months and 30 months in a forest area here after tying their limbs but the two were rescued by locals and the family was reunited.
Police, however, did not press charges against the father, identified as Mohammad Rafi, stating that it was in "the best interst of the infants".
Also, Rafi apparently had a change of heart after abandoning his daughters and went back to the site to get them, they said.
Inspector Civil Lines police station Wahid Khan said that Rafi, who hails from Rampur, had an altercation with his wife in Delhi following which he brought his two daughters to Rampur, tied their limbs and threw them in a bushy area.
However, a youth from the area saw him in the act and informed the villagers who rescued the two children and handed them over to former Block Pramukh Mohd Akbar.
Mohd Akbar, moved by the incident, informed the police and offered to look after the infants.

Meanwhile, police said, Rafi came to his senses and tried to look for his daughters. He approached the police but it refused to hand him back the girls, Khan said.
Rafi then contacted his wife, narrated the sequence of events and called her to Rampur police station.
"After seeing theie parents, the two infants started crying and rushed to embrace their mother. It changed our mind," the Inspector said.
"In the best interest of the infants' future, we handed them to their mother. Had I taken a legal action, the future of the infants might have been jeopardized," he said.
