Man mauled to death by tiger in Bandhavgarh Reserve

A 47-year-old man was mauled to death by a tiger in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve area, a forest official said today.
The incident took place yesterday when a villager identified as Hanuman Singh, from Badi Tummi went to graze animals under Pali Range's Barhaai beat area where a tiger attacked and killed him, Forest Ranger Vati Maravi said today.
Soon after the attack, a woman who was present at the spot rushed back to village for help. Villagers later recovered his body from the forest area.
Maravi said the body has been sent to Umaria district hospital for autopsy.
An immediate assistance of Rs 10,000 was given to the kin of the deceased, he said, adding further relief will be provided later on as per the rules.
Due to the rising population of tigers in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, chance of man-animal conflict has increased, the deceased's brother, Shambhu Singh said.
Forest department has a provision to pay Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation to the kin of deceased persons in such an eventuality, Maravi added.
