A 23-year-old primary school teacher was stabbed to death at her residence here by a man, who later tried to commit suicide, police said today.
Archana Shantaram Lahakare, hailing from Kopargaon in adjoining Ahmednagar district, taught at a Zilla Parishad school in Valadgaon near here in North Maharashtra and stayed in a rented house.
After fatally attacking the woman on Friday afternoon, the assailant, Mukesh Gopal Sable (25), tried to end his life, Inspector Deepak Aware of Lasalgaon Police Station said.
The reason behind the murder was not yet known, he said.
The incident came to light when Lahakare's landlady Sunanda Shisav noticed commotion in the house and called a neighbour. Both entered the house and found Lahakare lying in a pool of blood and Sable in an unconscious state.
Police were called and they sent the woman's body for post-mortem and shifted Sable to Nashik Civil Hospital.
Sable has been booked for murder and attempt to commit suicide, Aware said.
