Two days after falling into a 70-feet dry farm well at a nearby village, a 35-year old farm labourer was rescued today.
Rakimuthu of Thookanayakanpalayam, about 42 km from here slipped into an abandoned, dry well in his village late at night on May 9.
Nobody heard his cries as the well was deep. Early this morning, a villager who happened to pass by, heard his shout for help and alerted the police.
A team of Fire and Rescue Services personnel from nearby Gobichettipalayam rushed to the spot and rescued the labourer after getting into the well by using a rope.
Leading Fire Man, K Arumugham, who was part of the rescue team told PTI that the man was conscious when rescued, but exhausted and very tired. The survivor told villagers that the two nights were "terrible in the midst of insects and garbage".
