The prosecution case was that Nilamani, a powerloom worker in Karumathampatti in the rural limits, had an illicit relationship with co-worker Krishnasamy.
He grew suspicious after he found her frequently talking to other men and picked up a quarrel with her over the issue.
On March 3 2013, he took her to a lonely place, where they used to meet regularly, and strangulated her with a saree.
He was later arrested.
Judge G Raja, before whom the case came up, sentenced the man to life imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 6,000 on him.
