Amarchand, a cloth merchant, was returning home in an autorickshaw. When he reached near Sarai Rohilla DDA flats, he got down the three-wheeler and started walking, they said.
Two men came from behind and tried to snatch his bag. When he resisted, they shot at in the head and fled with the bag. The victim was rushed to a hospital where he died during treatment, police said.
Following the incident, irate locals protested outside the Sarai Rohilla Police Station, they said.
Police are scanning the CCTV footage from the area to identify the accused and ascertain whether they were following the cloth merchant.
