A 40-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by armed assailants in broad daylight near a Gurdwara here, police said today.
The victim, Satnam Singh a resident of Hoshiarpur, had come to the city to attend a religious programme. The attackers, who were in a car, fired several times at him when he was going towards his truck that was parked near the Sector-38 Gurdwara, they said.
Singh was rushed to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) where he succumbed to bullet injuries, police said.
The body has three visible gunshot wounds. However, the postmortem report can throw light on the exact number of bullets that hit Satnam, they said.
Police suspect that old enmity could be the reason behind the incident.
A case has been registered against three persons identified as Bobby, Arshdeep and Tirath in connection with Satnam's killing, SHO at the Maloya police station Ram Rattan said.
The matter is being investigated, he said.
