The deceased has been identified as Samey Deen, they said.
The incident took place when the miscreants entered the trader's house last night and shot him while he was sleeping, they added.
Police rushed to the spot and started a search operation to nab the culprits.
The body has been sent for postmortem. The cause behind the murder is not yet known and further investigations are underway, police added.
