A farmer and his two daughters today died, possibly of asphyxiation, after they entered a well to retrieve a bucket in Dundaseoni area of Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district, police said.
Police identified the three as Ganesh Raut (52) and his daughters Babita (22) and Savita (18).
"Raut descended a well to retrieve a bucket that fell in after the rope to which it was tied snapped. His daughters too descended the well after they saw Raut lying below in an unresponsive state," said Lanji Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Akhil Patel.
On being alerted, a police team rushed to the spot and pulled out the dead bodies of the three persons, Patel said.
He said that post mortem reports of Raut and his daughters were awaited.
"The post mortem reports will tell us the exact cause of death, But prima facie, it looks like they died of asphyxiation (state of being deprived of oxygen)," Patel said.
Further investigations into the case were underway, the SDOP added.
