A man who was allegedly involved in a brutal gang rape and murder of a girl in Bihar and had escaped from the custody of the local police, has been arrested from south west Delhi, police said today.
The accused Arjun Mahto, who was allegedly involved in a gang rape and murder of a girl in Sitamarhi district in Bihar, was arrested near Uttam Nagar Metro station by a police team on August 16, said Surender Kumar, DCP(south west).
Mahto had allegedly raped and then murdered a girl in Kanhauli Bazar village in Sitamarhi(Bihar) when he was a juvenile, along with three other persons in 2011, he said.
He was on the run for more than a year before he was captured by the Bihar police in 2013 only to escape from their custody in 2014. Since then, he had moved to Delhi and was involved in cases of auto-lifting and snatching, said the officer.
Mahto was planning to form a gang to become a gangster in his home state after procuring arms. He had gone to fetch arms from a supplier near Uttam Nagar Metro station where he was caught by the police that had laid a trap for him on a tip off.
