"The patient, who was being treated at Sir Takhatsinhji general hospital, died today," in-charge superintendent of the hospital Arvind Sisodiya reporters today.
"We cannot say the patient died as he was thrown outside the hospital," the official said.
The unidentified street-dweller had been brought to the hospital on Tuesday in an unconscious state by some city-based social workers.
The man was being treated for severe injuries and infection in his body, but later when nobody was there to take care of him and as he was badly stinking, a staffer threw him near an open drainage outside, a hospital employee had said.
According to another member of the hospital, the patient had infection due to injury in his right hand, which later turned into gangrene, which could have led to the death.
The state government had also ordered a probe in the case, which is pending at present.
