Endurance cyclists from India and abroad will negotiate challenging conditions and a tough terrain in the race, being organised by Northern Escapes & Cycling 4 Change.
The Manali-Leh-Khardungla highway stretches over 500 kilometres predominantly comprised of paved roads, with stretches of sand, gravel and rocky terrain thrown in for good measure.
The participation will be in two categories with varying level of difficulty to suit a cyclist's skill set. The 9-Day Stage Race is for long-distance endurance.
"Borne out of sheer passion and love for the region and the sport, MKCC gives you the chance to compete in the highest cycling race in the world. MKCC is the only high-altitude long distance race in India. With MKCC, we plan to wedge India firmly on the world endurance cycling circuit," Gaurav Schimar, Founder of Northern Escapes, said.
Race Director, Anil Uchil added that, "The Manali-Khardungla route is highly inspirational for the global cycling community. And a word of advice for all riders: the route is not so much about physical capability, it is more of a mind game to be won!."
