Manappuram gold loot case cracked with 8 arrests

The Bihar Police today claimed to have cracked the 14.98 kg gold ornaments loot case after arresting eight persons.
Of the jewelleries looted from Manappuram gold loan company's branch at Ara town in Bhojpur district, the police recovered 3.855 kg ornaments, ADG (HQ) Gupteshwar Pandey said.
Besides, two pistols, ammunition, an SUV, 14 cell phones and Rs 1.09 lakh in cash were seized from the arrested persons.
The gold ornaments along with Rs 2.28 lakh in cash was looted on December 16, 2014 from the company's Civil Lines branch at Ara. The looters had also taken away the CCTV camera and hard disc installed within the company premises.
Pandey said, "Many versions like involvement of terrorists and SIMI activists cropped up after the loot. But our teams led by an IG rank officer cracked the case. The gold was looted by a gang of thieves and eight members of it have been arrested so far."
"The gang committed similar crimes in various parts of the country. We are trying to recover the remaining gold that was looted," Pandey said.
Among the arrested is the gang's kingpin Ajay Chero of Daltonganj area of Palamu district in Jharkhand. The others are Rajesh Mistri, Munna Sah, Amit Kumar, Sandeep Kumar, Shambhunath Verma, Lal Saheb Singh and Deepak Kumar Singh.
