Senior Congress MLA Manas Bhuniya today ridiculed the decision of the Congress to hold a protest-march over his name appearing in a murder case, saying the Congress had 'missed' the train of registering a protest.
"The incident happened during last Assembly election and today is August 9. It took four months for the state Congress leadership to stage a protest. They should know one thing that there is a specific time to catch a train and if you miss that you will miss the train. The state Congress has missed the train named Manas Bhuniya," he told reporters.
The state Congress has decided to hold a protest-rally and submit a deputation to Governor K N Tripathi over Manas Bhunia's name coming up in the murder of a TMC worker in West Midnapore district earlier this year.
"The Governor is the constitutional head of the state not the executive authority of the state. The state Congress leadership can go to him it is their prerogative," Bhuniya said.
Bhuniya is presently having a strained relationship with the state Congress leadership over his appointment as PAC chairman, a post in which the Congress wanted alliance partner Left Front to be nominated.
While reacting to Bhuniya's jibe, state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury said, "It hardly matters whether he will accompany us or not. But as long as he is a Congress MLA, we will protest against anything unjust being meted out to him by the ruling TMC.
