"The Union Government has approved funds amounting to Rs 2.50 crore for the purpose," the minister said while on a visit to Manasbal lake yesterday.
The Manasbal lake is stated to be the deepest lake (at 43ft depth) in the Valley and attracts a large number of visitors, especially birdwatchers.
"Water sports activities are also being promoted at the lake as part of our adventure tourism project," Jora said, adding that several local youths have been trained in water sports as part of the programme.
The minister said that existing residential structures around the lake would also be rebuilt to be "eco-friendly".
"Besides, a bird-watching tower would be constructed at the lakeside so that visiting tourists can observe various avians at the lake," he said.
During his visit, the Minister inspected various ongoing projects on the banks of the lake, including a food craft centre, an open air theatre and Kulpora temple, which are being constructed at a cost of Rs 2.50 crore by Wullar Manasbal Development Authority (WMDA).
He also inspected a pedestrian path being constructed at a cost of Rs 4.17 crore.
