Addressing a convocation function of a women's college here, Gandhi lauded the state government for improving the child sex ratio from 830/1000 to 910 this year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign from Panipat in January last year.
Khattar had recently said that Haryana had lowest child sex ratio in the country as per census 2011, but that it had now crossed the benchmark SRB of 900 for the first time in December 2015.
"17 centres have been opened so far to assist women in cases of crime against them. Nearly 200 women have been coming with their issues at each centre daily," she said adding that the Centre was serious about issues related to women's safety.
Speaking on a new safety feature 'in-built system of panic button on mobiles for women's safety', the Union minister said the feature will be available on cell phones from January next year.
"There would be panic button safety features on cell phones, which women can use in case of any threat of molestation or any such incident.It will alert the nearest police station beside alerting other cell phone users near the victim about the potential threat to her," she said.
