National champion Mahesh Mangaonkar of Maharashtra and Yash Fadte of Goa clinched the men's and under 19 boys titles respectively in the CCI Western India Squash Championship on Sunday.
Top seed Mangaonkar got a walkover from arch-rival and second seed Vikram Malhotra, also from Maharashtra, who did not report for the final showdown as due to a right hamstring injury.
Last Sunday, Mangaonkar had defeated Malhotra in five games in the nationals.
Fadte, who had knocked out joint 3-4th seed Rutvik Rau and top seed Tushar Shahani in the previous two rounds, toppled second seed Veer Chotrani of Maharashtra in five games in the under 19 boys final.
"Its feels great to win this title. The CCI tournament is one the most prestigious championship in the Indian squash calendar. I am proud to win the title in my first attempt," a jubilant Fadte said.
The Girls Under-19 final also witnessed a grim tussle for supremacy before second seed Sanya Vats of Delhi overcame Maharashtras top seed Navmi Sharma 5-11, 11-9, 11-5, 6-11, 11-5.
