Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today paid his last respect to the two Assam Rifles jawans who were killed in a bomb blast in Chandel district yesterday.
Singh placed a wreath on the slain jawans' coffins at Imphal international airport and said the attack on the troopers was a "cowardly act".
He said those responsible for the attack "will not be spared" and additional forces have been rushed to the area to conduct large-scale combing operations.
Two Assam Rifles jawans were killed and six others injured when a powerful bomb exploded yesterday morning in the district.
The improvised explosive device (IED) exploded when an Assam Rifles team was patrolling Maha Mani of Chandel Town in the district, about 64 km from the state capital.
In a statement emailed to the local media, the banned insurgent outfit Revolutionary Peoples Front (RPF) claimed responsibility for the attack.
