The newly elected BJP-led Manipur government today decided to do away with the process of interview in direct recruitment for junior level posts in all departments.
A meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh also decided to set up an anti- corruption cell at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
"The cabinet decided to discontinue the stage of interview in direct recruitment for junior level posts in all departments under Manipur government with immediate effect, " an official statement said.
It also decided to amend the existing recruitment rules for Grade III and IV posts accordingly, it added.
The step will help government curb corruption, assist in more objective selection in a transparent manner and ease the problems of poor people, it said.
"In case of any recruitment that was not completed, the department concerned should place the matter before the cabinet for taking appropriate decision," the statement said.
On the setting up of the anti-corruption cell at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, it said the step has been taken up "to receive information on corrupt elements in public service for ensuring transparency and accountability in governance".
The government asked general public to send video/audio of "any incident of corruption in public service" to a designated mobile number -- 9402150000 -- through WhatsApp.
