While unfurling the National Tri-colour at the main function at the 1st Manipur Rifles parade ground, the chief minister assured the people that development work will be done in both hills and valley areas of Manipur.
The state government, he said, is giving priority to "complete the unfinished task of the previous government."
Emphasising the need for better road connectivity within the state and upgrading the national highways at the earliest, he said that "the government cannot stand alone without the people's assistance."
The chief minister received salute from 44 contingents representing the state police, Manipur Rifles, fire services, BSF, CRPF amongst others.

The chief minister gave medals to police officers for "distinguished and meritorious services" and awarded "trophies of commendation in community police" to Thoubal superintendent of police K Meghachandra, Imphal East SP Kabib for Anti-drug campaign.
Independence Day was also observed in all the district headquarters and sub-divisions without reports of any untoward incident.
