Manipur governor Najma Heptulla today flagged off 'Vigyan Jyot' rally from the Raj Bhavan here to the Manipur University, Canchipur, ahead of the upcoming 105th Indian Science Congress scheduled to start at its premises beginning March 16.
Talking to reporters, Heptulla expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking time off to inaugurate the event of such magnitude.
The Science Congress was supposed to be held at the Osmania University, but later shifted to Manipur due to some inconvenience, added Heptulla.
Emphasizing that the state with its rich biodiversity is an ideal place for organizing such an event for the first time in the state, she said that the nature should not be exploited but to be preserved which was the prime ministers message to all.
The 5-day long Science Congress will see a congregation of 5000 delegates including three Nobel Laureates and top scientists, scholars and corporate officials from all over the country.
