Manipuri youth assaulted by locals in Gurgaon

A 29-year-old man from Manipur was allegedly assaulted by a group of locals in Chakarpur village in Gurgaon, police said today.
The victim, identified as Bruce K Thangkhal, is the media in-charge of North East Support Centre and Helpline (NESCH), and a youth leader in Manipur.
Thangkhal suffered serious head and eye injuries, and has been admitted to Sanjivini hospital here where his condition is said to be stable, police said.
The accused persons involved in the crime could not be identified yet.
According to the complaint registered by Thangkhal, he was walking with two of his friends on MG Road here yesterday at around 10 PM when a group of six to seven locals started making taunting remarks.
When he objected, the men, who were said to be in inebriated state, abused and attacked Thangkhal with sticks and iron rods. Later, the victim collapsed on the road, police said.

He was rushed to the hospital by NESCH members, who also met East Gurgaon DCP Deepak Saharan in this connection.
At least 100 members staged a protest outside Sector-29 police station, they said.
"We have formed teams and are conducting investigation to nab the accused persons. They are not yet identified.
"Wehave registered a case under relevant sections of IPC in sector-29 police station and will take prompt action against the accused persons. No arrest was made till now," Saharan added.
