Manipuri youth murder: 3 accused sent to 2-day police custody

A Delhi court today remanded three youths, arrested in connection with the murder of a 29-year- old former call centre employee from Manipur, in two days of police custody.
Metropolitan magistrate Ashok Kumar sent the three accused -- Shakti Basoya (21), his cousin Sanjay Basoya (24) and Rajiv (25) -- to police custody till July 24 while allowing Delhi Police to interrogate them.
"In view of the facts and circumstances, the application for grant of two days police remand is allowed. The accused be produced on July 24," the court said.
While seeking two days custody of the trio, the police said that their custodial interrogation was required at this stage because two other accused, whose names have been disclosed by them, are yet to be arrested.
The names of these two accused were disclosed to be Bhola and Lokesh, police told the court, adding that the three youths, who were arrested yesterday after analysis of CCTV footage, revealed their involvement in the crime.
The investigators also told the court that a piece of cloth which was used in the crime was yet to be recovered.

Police told the court that the assault was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the South Delhi's Kotla Mubarakpur area which showed one of the men wrapping a cloth around victim Akha Salouni's neck and swinging him around in the air.
They also said the youths then pinned down the victim on the floor and showered blows and kicks on him.
Police have booked the accused under Section 302 (murder) of IPC and various provisions of the Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Salouni was allegedly beaten to death by a group of five youths in Kotla Mubarakpur area when the victim along with two friends, Dihe Kazhiihrii (25), who is also a resident of Manipur, and Nagendra Sharma (40), a native of Bihar, went to Masoodpur Colony to attend a party at a friend's place.
