Bihar government has achieved 27 per cent of the revenue target for 2014-15 and Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi today asked the officials to ensure that 100 per cent target is achieved.
Reviewing the internal resources of the state, Manjhi pointed out that only Rs 7,663 crore out of targeted Rs 28,745 crore revenue during the current Financial Year 2014-15 has been collected.
"It is just 27 per cent of the target. Only six months of this FY remained and there is a need to speed up the collection of revenue," Manjhi said adding laxity would not be tolerated.
The chief minister said the revenue of the state from internal resources used to be just Rs 4,000 crore in 2005-06, but it has soared and the target is Rs 28,745 crore now.
He said 60 per cent of this revenue comes from Commercial Taxes Department, Excise provides 13 per cent, while Registration and Transport departments contribute 12.5 per cent and 3.5 per cent, respectively.
Several ministers and officials from various departments were also present on the occasion.
Talking to reporters, Manjhi said he would take a broom on October 2 on the occasion of the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri to spread their message of cleanliness, and to inspire the people to practise it.
"I will also go to the habitations of Dalits and Mahadalits, stay and eat with them, as well as, talk about hygiene to support the Union Government's cleanliness campaign. The campaign is a good one...," added Manjhi.
