Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today said his estranged cousin Manpreet Singh Badal had not only "betrayed" the people by aligning with Congress, but also "stabbed in the back" of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who "trusted him so much".
Hitting out at Manpreet, he asked, "How can one prove loyalty to anybody when he cannot be loyal to Badal sahib?"
Manpreet had joined Congress and merged his outfit People's Party of Punjab with the party in January.
"While on one hand people have reposed so much trust on the Badal family, on the other hand Manpreet cheated the people of Gidderbaha constituency (from where he contested polls) by allowing himself to be a Congress sycophant," Sukhbir said.
He also said the list of SAD candidates for next year's assembly polls would be announced soon and the first list is almost ready.
On the developmental works undertaken by the SAD-BJP government in the last nine years, he claimed the state has gone up on the index of progress only under the leadership of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Claiming that SAD has proved to be the benefactor of all sections including farmers, poor, traders and the youth, Sukhbir said the government pays Rs 6,000 crore to Powercom to provide free electricity to the farmers.
